Christina Keppel, MD, is committed to the treatment of the whole patient by means of psychotherapy and medication management. She is a board-certified community psychiatrist with extensive activity in private inpatient and outpatient settings and serves a broad spectrum of adult patients in clinical practice. She has more than 25 years of experience providing psychiatric services within the Milwaukee and Mequon communities.

Dr. Keppel received her medical degree from Loyola University–Stritch School of Medicine. She completed a four-year residency in psychiatry at Northwestern University Medical School, including a year as chief resident, and was later a candidate of the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute.

Dr. Keppel is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she is an active clinical faculty member teaching psychotherapy skills as a supervisor to residents in psychiatric training. She has been recognized for her teaching with the Golden Apple Award. She is also a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Keppel’s therapeutic style is shaped by a background emphasizing psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral psychotherapy interventions and medication management, when needed, while focusing on the development of skills to improve psychosocial well-being and strengthen relationships. Dr. Keppel specializes in the holistic approach. She carefully obtains a life history and description of current concerns and then, in a cooperative relationship with the patient, constructs a treatment plan meeting the needs of the whole patient and family. Her broad-based experiences enable her to effectively treat adults experiencing a full spectrum of disorders that affect not just patients but also their homes, jobs, and families.

Through counseling and medication management, if needed, Dr. Keppel strives to provide treatment for problems such as:

  • fertility treatment stress and family-building issues
  • adoptions
  • anxiety/panic
  • bipolar disorder
  • career stress
  • chronic illness stress
  • depression
  • grief and loss
  • medical illness causing emotional trauma
  • obesity and weight management
  • obsessive compulsive disorders/hoarding
  • older adult issues
  • parenting concerns
  • phobias and fears
  • relationship problems
  • sexual dysfunction
  • sleep disturbances and insomnia

She has a special interest in patients experiencing fertility treatment stress and the difficulties of family planning including grief, in vitro procedures, adoption, and fostering.

Dr. Keppel and her clients work together as a team to find the best solution for each individual. She welcomes new patients who wish to work within this framework of therapeutic dialogue.  Dr. Keppel and her client work together as a team to find the best solution for each individual.
